CHARACTER The character in the timber means the weathering that has taken place over several decades combined with any natural imperfections. The nearer the surface, the heavier the weathering or character. None can or indeed should be supplied free from blemish as this defeats our purpose of displaying the natural imperfections, but we can offer three distinct grades. Light Character Avoiding heavy or deep features in the timber, but still displaying definite signs of ageing. Medium Character Chosen to display the distinct weathering effect with some deep feature. This is the most popular choice. Heavy Character Very mature ageing with extreme weathering and very deep features. Not suitable for a surface to be used but does look absolutely fantastic on show pieces. FINISHES The finish normally chosen is a clear satin lacquer which enhances the natural colouring of the timer as well as making it completely heat and waterproof. If a totally matt finish is required without the heat and waterproofing then a Danish Oil is available as an alternative, or a wax finish can also be provided.
